INDEPENDENT PERFORMANCE MAKER
CULTURAL WORKER

Xavier de Sousa (he/they) is an independent performance maker and culture worker based between UK and PT whose practice explores personal and political heritage, belonging and migration.

Through theatrical, durational performance and moving image, they explore the dichotomies between the live experience and agency in the performance space, and queer methodologies of performance, written text and research.

Their performance works includes a trilogy of shows about belonging and power structures, from solo theatre show POST to collaborative performance Pós- and durational performance REGNANT. Alongside their performance work, Xavier curates the digital research and live art commissioning platform performing borders, which includes the launch of their first migrant-artist led e-Journal.

Their creative practice also encompasses writing, having published various creative, reflective and research-based texts for publications such as METAL, Penguin, Les Cahiers Luxembourgeois and Centre national de littérature - Lëtzebuerger Literaturarchiv. Xavier is a co-founder of Migrants in Culture and Producer Gathering, and is a member of BECTU Union.
